If you're trying to transition to another gender, be around that gender. Don't go back to the other one hoping they would be more understanding. In all honesty transgender people probably will only ever receive acceptance, but never understanding. I don't care what you do with your body, but I for the life of me don't get it.

[–]skywreckdemon 32 points33 points34 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'm transgender and I really don't understand why he would even want to join a sorority in the first place.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If "he" wanted to be in a sorority, "he" should have stayed a she.

[–]SuddenlySarcastic points 9 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

I hope you get well soon.

[–]skywreckdemon 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Being trans can't be cured. There's no feeling "better" from it. Unless you count feeling better once we transition, in which case, thanks for the encouragement.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Which statistically provides no relief...

[–]skywreckdemon 17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's just not true at all.

[–]SimpleZerotic 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"90 percent of these diverse patients had at least one other significant form of psychopathology ... that gender surgery did not alleviate"

"100 studies and found 20 percent regret [reassignment surgery]"

Ignoring these sorts of stats and numbers won't get trans people anywhere. I want to help, but you can't fix things based on false premises.

http://thefederalist.com/2015/08/19/transgender-regret-is-real-even-if-the-media-tell-you-otherwise/

"Male-to-females had significantly increased risks for suicide attempts compared to both female and male controls. By contrast, female-to-males had significantly increased risk of suicide attempts only compared to male controls but not compared to female controls. This suggests that male-to-females are at higher risk for suicide attempts after sex reassignment, whereas female-to-males maintain a female pattern of suicide attempts after sex reassignment."

So it doesn't even really change the brain in a major way this suggests. I found that interesting.

I was about to comment with all my deep understanding of his situation (I have none) until I saw your comment. I hope you are telling the truth and not shit posting. I can't imagine how hard it must be to develop relationships or maintain existing ones when you go through a transition.

As much as I enjoy a true PPD, this isn't one for me.

[–]skywreckdemon 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not shitposting. I actually am trans.

[–]SlipcasedJayce 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

/r/ask_transgender could offer some insight.

[–]furrowsmiter 37 points38 points39 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You misspelled /r/psychology.

[–]SlipcasedJayce 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I believe my sub is the better option, as the folks there can offer first-hand insight. And there's some actual science behind gender dysphoria, as in actual neuroconnections and biochemistry.

Trans isn't about roleplayers and drag performed, ya know?

[–]skywreckdemon 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It seems like a lot of people on this sub don't like trans people very much.

[–]Iron_Rogue 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Subs like this can be funny sometimes but holy hell, you find a lot of genuine hate.

[–]SlipcasedJayce 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's natural. They don't understand it, so of course they'd have a revulsion. That's why it's our job to educate where possible.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

What do you ask though? Why do you want to be a man? whats wrong with being a woman? why do you feel that way? and any of the answers you get will be gibberish rhetoric I've never wanted to assosicate or talk to trans because there so fucking awquard like if you want to be a man fine get a fuckin dick sewed on chop off your hair whatever but this im a man while still having a vagina needs to stop

[–]SlipcasedJayce 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Simple: ask them to tell you about themselves. Ask them what lead them to conclude they they're trans. If you ask in a serious and courteous manner, they'll be more than happy to oblige you. All they're looking for is understanding and being treated like human.

Also: a trans individual will typically do their damnedest to blend with the gender they ID as while they transition. Plus, one can't really just up and say they're trans, that requires intensive counseling sessions with a licensed professional in order to be diagnosed as gender dysphoric. Where things get understandably complicated is when they're mid-transition. The hormones they have to use for at least few years (before they're cleared for surgery) will cause bodily changes.

Source: has a trans friebd and co-worker who isn't afraid to tell his story, or to tell a transphobe to fuck off.

And was that downvote really necessary?

EDIT: also wanted to mention said dysphoria also has a neural component; their brains are literally wired for the opposite gender.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I can't downvote? and maybe I'm using the wrong term, I'm okay if you have done the required things and have the "correct genitals" but for these people to be gender fluid and wishy washy trans tards I won't put up with it, there's 2 genders and maybe you think your brain is the other one, have you ever thought your brains your fuckin brain and maybe its okay for a guy to like different things without havin to chop is wiener off

[–]SlipcasedJayce 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Which is why counseling and therapy should be a requirement for diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

yep I've also got a problem with those people letting there kids think this is okay and seeing 6 years olds transform from tommy to tamrah

[–]SlipcasedJayce 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Indeed. That's entirely too young. They should be allowed to grow up a bit first

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

ur my buddy now i no longer hate you

[–]SlipcasedJayce 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never had a reason to hate you, so we're good, I guess.

This cake looks SOOOO good, I really want to eat it. But I also really like the look of the cake, and don't want it gone. Can't I have both?

[–]kcins 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can 3D scan the cake and then look at it in VR while eating it.

[–]run_mochila points 9 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

It's hard to understand a mental illness when you don't have it yourself.

[–]kcins 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It is no longer considered a mental illness...

[–]run_mochila points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

That's okay. People with mental illness consider it to be normal and not a mental illness. I consider it a mental illness just as I consider pluto a planet. It just is.

[–]kcins -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its just that you're wrong. You can think what you want, but you're still wrong. Especially with the Pluto reference.

[–]spiceyspruce 26 points27 points28 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Transgender-ism is just body dis-morphia which is a mental illness

get over it kids, you're sick in the head but thats ok

[–]e4tshit 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's nothing new under the sun. Women are always trying to infiltrate "male only" spaces. They simply can't have men meeting together in groups and speaking privately, not if they can't monitor the dialog. Two weeks before my annual vacation with my guy friends, my ex pestered me to no end about why I should let her come with. She simply wanted to be where she wasn't welcome. They lust after "access".

[–]Justincouldbemyname 56 points57 points58 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

This is proof that trannies are a mentally ill.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No doubt transsexuals are mentally ill, but maybe this one is a little worse...

[–]skywreckdemon 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That's rude of you to say.

[–]Bahamute 19 points20 points21 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But it's correct.

[–]Justincouldbemyname 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its true.

[–]SpudTheSpartan 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Seriously, Reddit attracts the worst people on the internet

[–]Bahamute 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, it just allows people to say what they really think without worrying about being politically correct.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the treatment for the illness (transition) is perfectly legitamite, and I have no problem with transsexuals.

[–]IIDwellerII 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We had a similar situation with my fraternity except it was a transgender female who was rushing. The person was pretty cool and aligned with our values but at the end of the day we decided that if they dont identify as a male then they cant associate.

[–]villke 17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why dude you could have tapped that boipussy.

[–]furrowsmiter 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

To paraphrase, "Transgender kids don't have any role models."

Here's a question: why has transgenderism always been at the extreme margins of Western society, and why, after essentially 5000 years, is it now all of the sudden "cool" to be transgender? I don't know. Answer that and you'll figure out why there are no transgender role models, I guess. I know for one I would not have been impressed by any transgender Civil War generals or anything like that.

Edit: I'm actually thrilled there's no mention of it ever in history books because, if I can't get away from it in the present, at least I can be free of it when I read a book. Pretty much any history that begins before Obama won't mention it really.

[–]Emma_Has_Swords 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

is it now all of the sudden "cool" to be transgender?

Because being a victim is cool, apparently.

From, A tranny who's watched this happen.

[–]furrowsmiter 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So you're saying people know they're going to be "victimized" before they even do it? Sounds like maybe don't do it, then. And, yes, there are plenty of people who think being a victim is "cool". Just ask any of our professional victims over at Tumblr. Some people thrive off of that shit, and know no other way to live.

[–]Emma_Has_Swords 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's exactly what I was saying. They think being trans is some holy grail or some shit, make up shit like "Non-binary" (Which just says "Trans people aren't real because gender isn't) or whatever. You know the heliocopter stuff.

I wish I could thrive off it. At this point in my life, I'm too sick to even work. I don't work, I can't work. I"ve tried and tried. I ain't got any shame in getting pity bucks from idiots.

I just woke up, Sorry.

*Edit: Someone also downvoted you, They're retarded.

[–]braveNewPedals 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Or there's plenty of history you didn't find.

[–]furrowsmiter 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I know all about that stuff, and, of course, it does exist in history as I already acknowledged. But it wasn't in the mainstream, and you will almost never come across it depending on what you are reading. I study the Civil War and have yet to find any mention of it, even though I'm sure there were things that happened.

[–]braveNewPedals 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I think it's more likely that you haven't heard of it in history books for the same reason you didn't hear about gay historical figures, who have a greater number but were closeted in life and the historians closeted them again while writing for a puritan/victorian/conservative readership. There was self-censoring of anything to suggest a figure was outside the lines. J Edgar Hoover had something going on in his private life, and there are closeted Republicans who get themselves revealed on occasion despite wishing to keep secret a part of their personality. I would bet there were a handful of transgender figures in early America no one will know about because they intentionally denied their own existence in order to stay afloat and survive the times. I'm not trying to validate or confirm every case in the post-modern wave of gender fluidity with this argument (I have no contest with what someone tells me they are, as long as they're reasonable in their presentation and they don't trample someone else in their hysteria). There's just no reason to assume history was devoid of examples, even the Civil War. There were absolutely intersex cases throughout history, but neurological transgenderism would have been unacceptable to express in many societies. Someone wishing to live a peaceful life might have fabricated lies to tell themselves and others in order to continue on, thus putting a major barrier in the way of documentation and research.

EDIT: grammar

You missed the most famous "transgender" of the US Civil War, Gen. George Edward Pickett CSA of the legendary Gettysburg, "Pickett's Charge".

[–]furrowsmiter 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If this is correct, please explain how Pickett fathered a child with his wife, how this was never discovered during his many years among other soldiers, including West Point, and how no one ever had any suspicions at all that he was anything other than a male, including the genius Lee, with whom Pickett worked closely.

[–]Liquor_Wetpussy points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

The site is a satire site...

[–]furrowsmiter 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol I had thought it was one of those "conspiracy" sites. Good one.

[–]Iappreci8thegr8r8m8 24 points25 points26 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

This whole situation makes no sense.. why the fuck would some mentally ill woman who identifies as male....think it would be ok for "him" to join an all female organization???

[–]ArteToLife points 9 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Probably too much of a snowflake to ever consider that living as a man might mean losing some female privilege.

[–]SwggrBck points 9 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

And actually having to, you know, live with men and all that entails. So yeah, losing that female privilege.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Hey, I'm a liberal and I view this as fucking retarded.

[–]SwggrBck points 9 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Same, and same.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

wut

[–]SwggrBck points 9 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm also a liberal and I also view the whole thing as retarded.

[–]braveNewPedals 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Then why'd you paint all "liberals" as anti-logic??

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where did I say "all liberals?"

[–]BonerSoup696969 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you refer to yourself in third person you're just not sane

[–]scarletice 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Damn, just join a Fraternity. It would do him good to be surrounded by other men. It would help him learn what being a man means and would probably make the transition easier.

[–]gloworm00 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or else make him realize he doesn't really want to be a man, because its not what he thinks it is.

[–]Omelly 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Could I like identify as a chick for a day? I wanna see some b00bies

[–]TheOnlyWombat 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing wrong with an attempt, and if they want to let him in, great.

Just don't complain if they don't let you in for a blatant reason.
