The guy in Blue Valentine was a man going his own way, dragged into a relationship mid journey. He says that's not what he wanted, he talks about how men are romantic and women are hypergamous. Then he does find that girl who makes him want to get married and slips into the life of a blue piller, unable to sate her desire to live a better life.

I found it difficult to watch because the tension resonated with me, I had to stop watching it the first time and come back to it the next day because it was actually painful to watch. It was harrowing because of how accurate the film portrays the relationship and the tension between the characters.

Great film but I fucking hate it.
