I skimmed through it.

The fact that they only used 38 people to determine race/name correlation seems ab it small.

They also didn't include 'redneck' names for white males, so maybe the names were asocated with 'class' or another factor.

The red flag for me is that they chose names intentionally for their ability to identify race and gender, rather than a random selection of names from people of the actual race and gender they sought to measure. They aren't measuring the real effect, but the intentionally maximized effect.

It's like trying to measure how people respond to wealth cues by building a list with Thurston Howell III, Adeline Kincaid-Worthington, Bartholomew Saxon Jr. vs. Bubba Wilson, Jim Bob Huggle and Jeb Tuckett. Intentionally flagrant examples produce intentionally flagrant results, but will those results match anything in the real world? Only if the real world people have those kinds of fabricated names intended to trigger a response.
