So we have the global gender paygap report 2016 - which is awesome since it tells us, how different countries are preforming on gender issues.

While no single measure can capture the complete situation, the Global Gender Gap Index presented in this Report seeks to measure one important aspect of gender equality—the relative gaps between women and men across four key areas: health, education, economy and politics.

Gender equality vs. women’s empowerment

Hence, the Index rewards countries that reach the point where outcomes for women equal those for men, but it neither rewards nor penalizes cases in which women are outperforming men on particular indicators in some countries. Thus, a country that has higher enrolment for girls rather than boys in secondary school will score equal to a country where boys’ and girls’ enrolment is the same.

So if a country has worse conditions for men - we will ignore it in the index.

Now you can look for articles that cite this report and see if they mention that these numbers are intentionally rigged towards women.

Best Index is Life expectancy. The sooner men die compared to women the better the index.

  • USA: male 68 years, women 71 years Rank 79
  • South Africa: Male 49 years, women 54 years - rank 1 - the first 70 entries are rank 1 due truncated stats (they cap at 1.06 in favour of women)
  • United Arabs State: Male 67 years, women 67 years - rank 138 equality in life expectancy equals rank 138 out of 144

So we do not want parity in life expectancy we want women to life longer. (the maximum here is not 1, but 1.06) the first 70 ranks are 1 where the factor is equal or greater than 1.06.
