I two friends, a best friend, and a casual friend.

My best friend call him J, he has lots of online friends, and ... he's kind-of an outsider. Since I'm also an outsider, our relationship works.

My other friends, call him A, has tons of casual friends, but I cannot engage him in anything of substance without him becoming deeply upset. He's basically allergic to any kind of intimate male relationship. He basically told me as such.

I don't want to rely on my wife for everything, but I feel male friendship really needs some kind of center, like a shared activity, or it just won't work.

Maybe someone can recommend a forum, or a book for this?

Once I got married (many years ago), the wife made sure all my connections to friends were eliminated. Wives do this. They want to make sure nothing distracts the husband from his most important job, keeping his wife happy by working all the time.

Just keep that money coming in; keep working so we have health insurance. Also, BTW the furnace needs to be fixed, we have to see her family, when are we gonna remodel the kitchen, etc.... blah blah blah.... They just pile it on!

I honestly think it's a symptom of modern life. You simply can't have meaningful friendships , raise a family, and have a fulfilling career.

Women have an advantage because they aren't expected to work 40+ hours, instead they could stay home and make candles with their girlfriends while they kids take a nap.

There is cultural support for almost nothing when it comes to men. We can't even bring ourselves as a society to try to figure out why so many men kill themselves. Our lives are not even worth a conversation in 'society'. So you can imagine how important men's mental well-being is to that same society even though it would probably help everyone.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
