America can not afford to have a female president until such time as it is possible to criticize that woman's politics without her supporters calling that misogyny.

Somewhat related to PR.....

I remember when I first graduated the MBA, it was shocking to see the gender split in terms of who got what jobs. Overwhelmingly, women were hired by other women in marketing - men weren't really given a chance. Combine that with the myth that women make up the bulk of purchasing decisions (despite the increase in 1 person homes), you have a strong barrier against men in anything marketing or advertising related.

My sense reading that is that an editor undermined the original piece the author wrote before it was even published. The last paragraph is most telling:

And yet, every executive doing the hiring in the preceding paragraphs shares a characteristic: a Y chromosome. Which speaks to a separate issue entirely. For an industry where being a man puts you in the minority, there’s no shortage of them in the c-suite.

As a writer, you don't write this formula of piece – a flip-side on the fish-out-of-water/day-in-the-life-of x - and then undermine your own points. That comes from an editor with an agenda trying to water down the impact and relatability of your narrative.

I've archived this piece because I think it may be a little too pro male to be allowed to remain long in place, especially after my having linked it here.

I can attest to this. As a guy with a degree in advertising/PR I research every company I apply to. Thier "meet the team" page is almost always 80% female. I know being male has hurt me.
