In Brazil part of your wage goes to a government fund named FGTS, which is basically a savings account that the gov uses to rob each and every legal employee by paying an interest rate below the inflation. You can't cash the money except in some very strict cases, one of them when you buy your first house or apartment(which have more rules).

It says the couple used the FGTS to buy a house, when they divorced, one part asked for the amount used to buy the house to be divided equally, even thought the investment was made unequally. The court ruled that the money that goes to the fund while married is part of the couples estate and must be divided when the couple divorce.

What is interesting is that the minister Isabel Galloti which wrote the case, defended that the FGTS is personal and could only be divided when it is used to common benefit of the parties. So if you don't cash it, it won't be divided upon divorce, which makes complete sense. Too bad the court ruled against this approach.
