To be fair they don't sit and wait on any crime as far as I understand; arresting does not actually mean the arrestee is guilty, though many assume it does.

I also do not know the woman's side of the story so have one small issue -- we currently have no proof she intentionally identified falsely as the rapist. Confabulation can get bizarre; they were somewhat acquainted so if she couldn't see her attacker's face her brain may have superimposed his face with the closest it could have easily IDed in attempt to make some sense of the crime.

I do agree, however, that accusing someone of rape and being fully aware they are not a rapist is ridiculously unacceptable and frankly infuriating. My ex did as a "woe poor me" to friends and friends-of-friends in my college. They found the idea laughable and a week later was chalked up to "bitch is crazy".
