An update: this post ended up being discussed on r/actualwomen, a misandrous community where men are the source of every dilemma. There are some absolutely horrendous comments, defending the position of the mother from r/parenting. This shit makes my blood boil; they blame every single crime imaginable on men.

She is being sexist, but, so what. When it comes to who will be caring for one's children in their home you can be sexist, racist, if you only like sitters with Ph.D's, with no piercing or only people over 50 years-old -- All that is fine. If she doesn't like the teen girl, named Ashley that lives across the street and won't allow her to babysit her children, is she being anti-Ashley or something? We as a society need to stop thinking and feeling that we are ENTITLED to be in someones home, to be in someone's life. Men are not going to babysit her kids. So what... babysit someone else's kids.

Btw I would tell OP to give him a try once or twice and have a conversation with your girls whether they like him or not. Good babysitters can be hard to find, especially when you are in a pinch.
