It's really an embarrassment for humanity that this wage gap bullshit isn't simply laughed away. The very first time I heard about it I thought: "That doesn't sound right....if it were even remotely true then big businesses would only hire women." Then I did the unthinkable and googled about it....low and behold it's complete horseshit and simply a ploy for feminists to further perpetuate their victim identity.

The fact that the lie is easy to disprove but still so prevalent....reminds of the "rape epidemic" feminists would have you believe is going on.

Though a remarkable exercise in futility, the author's intent would come across as a nice sentiment if I thought it were remotely genuine. I'd bet money all of that is just ego masturbation, conscious or otherwise, masquerading as legitimate concern for how, according to a few statistically-dubious claims, his daughter might make x dollars less than his son annually in the year 20-fucking-50.

Either he's a saint or I'm one callous bastard, because I can't imagine giving anywhere near as much of a shit about this as the author. There's no way to even make a ballpark estimate (let's briefly pretend that the wage gap is anything but a meaningless statistical aberration publicized primarily for political capital) of the extent to which the earnings of men and women will differ on average in the US goddamn decades from now.

The author is fairly intelligent--he did manage to communicate that much in the article--likely intelligent enough to review the details of a study and decide with some degree of reason whether its conclusions are supported by the data, and aren't blatantly under the influence of some confounding variable not controlled in the study. I suspect that he's deliberately and consciously using a bullshit bandwagon political argument to come across as Dad of the Century.

Essentially, the guy's just using the timeless technique of the humble-brag.

"I really want people to think I'm generous and fair and progressive and overall great so that way I can hate myself less, but if I just straight up tell people that, some of them won't believe me. So, have this proclamation of my own Christ-like righteousness disguised thinly as me being outraged by things I can't understand."

I've observed a number of self-proclaimed modern/progressive/buzzword Americans who seem to derive a great deal more personal satisfaction from publicly extolling their own moral righteousness than the average person.

Where I take issue is the point at which such people feel the need to degrade others in order to keep themselves convinced of their own moral superiority. Brag about yourself all you want and the worst I'll do is stop listening. Degrade me in order to feel superior to me and you might feel your jaw break as well.

That sort of hostile, nasty shit usually happens when one of their granite pillars of right and wrong is subjected to reasonable scrutiny, and subsequently starts to crumble beneath the weight of logic. Then the knives come out.

It terrifies them, likely because these people derive their entire sense of self-worth from nothing more than artificial notions of moral superiority in relation to their peers.

"Oh shit. What if the rest of my cherished convictions are equally shaky? They're all I've got. I'd better start attacking the character of this guy whose views differ from mine before he makes me think about how my initial analyses of complex events may not always be spot-on, or about the fact that there are many things I don't know.

It's completely okay for me to act like a massive douche whenever I'm facing rational conversation with a person who has different views than I do. Their differing views make them inferior to me, because their views aren't my views, which are better than theirs since they're mine. Therefore, I have ample justification for consciously attempting make them feel like shit since I'm better than then.

Besides, I have to do this in order keep my sad sorry sense of self from imploding into the chasm of my own insecurity. I also need to find a way to justify being a shitty person here with myself, or start looking for a scapegoat to blame. After all, what could possibly be worse than the prospect of having to amend my precious ideas in order to more accurately reflect conditions of reality? I might need to accept that I was wrong! Inconceivable. I'd sooner kill and die."

I'm growing to fucking hate the internet. I'm not old and miserable enough to be a jaded cynical prick.

I could understand a woman taking the wage gap and all that other feminist horseshit at face value, because they never get to see their privilege, they're surrounded by it day in and day out until they die.

But how the fuck does this man not realize what a crock of shit it is?!
