It would help if women were punished with the same stiff sentences men get or if they met the same physical requirements or indeed if trouble strikes they do not play the female card and claim they were vulnerable.

Do British fire-crews run on completely different ideas than American ones? Every report on attempts to get more female firefighters in the US that I have seen has said that the attempts were mainly failures, with very few exceptions. I think I'd even read that once a woman succeeds in getting through the requirements, she is often relegated to the task of recruiting more female firefighters instead of actually fighting fires.
