Wollstonecraft would, in my opinion, be appalled to have been adopted as a 'founder of the feminist movement.' I'm pretty sure that she would have considered 'feminism' as manifestly sexist and therefore ridiculously self defeating.

Years ago a girlfriend of mine suggested I read A Vindication of the Rights of Women; it was during an argument about something or other to do with women's rights. Here's a taste of Wollstonecraft's staggering intellect:

"Taught from their infancy that beauty is woman's sceptre, the mind shapes itself to the body, and roaming round its gilt cage, only seeks to adorn its prison."

Wollstonecraft would know very well who was doing that 'teaching' these days, and would have little time for the childish tantrums of modern women.

I don't care what A levels are available for people to study myself. I would have an opinion of the value of any subsequent exam results however.

P.S. Mary Wollstoncraft was Mary Shelly's mum. If you never bothered to read Frankenstein (The Modern Prometheus) I would recommend it.
