"In the last thirty years, profound changes have occurred in family law all around the Western world. There has come to be a recognition that children generally benefit from the involvement of both parents in their lives - in the absence of serious violence, abuse or high conflict between parents - and therefore children's relationship with both parents ought to be supported after separation."

These are nice words but why is shared parenting not the default assumption or enforced as such? What avenues are available to a man, already a parent from a 10 year marriage, if his ex is denying his parental rights by making him arrange visitation on short term notice - often followed by a "sorry i already made arrangements for this weekend"? It should not be necessary for dads to go to court, and pay legal fees, to have this fixed.
