Child support agencies argue that they are simply striving for "Parity of parental living situation" to justify having the higher earning parent pay more towards child care. However the higher earning parent could point out that their high stress job, required to raise the other parent's standard of living, gives them less time to spend with their kids or affects the quality of the time they spend with their kids - thus negatively affecting "Parity of quality of parental care".

Parents in this situation should be allowed to take on less stressful jobs as an alternative way to equalise both parent's standard of living and the quality and amount of time spent with their kids. In a society concerned with fairness, equality and children's well-being both parents should be allowed to make a life-style decision to earn less but spend more quality time with their families. There is a hidden bias as to which gender is afforded this privilege which subconsciously affects discussions around these matters.

Currently the CSA forces the paying parent to earn the maximum possible salary by calculating their child support based on their ability to earn. This is the mechanism that is enforcing the status quo.
