Ellen Pao became a hero to many when she took on the entrenched male-dominated culture of Silicon Valley. But sentiment is a fickle thing. Late Friday she fell victim to a crowd demanding her ouster as chief executive of the popular social media site Reddit.

Ms. Pao’s abrupt downfall in the face of a torrent of sexist and racist comments, many of them on Reddit itself, is quite likely to renew charges that bullying, harassment and cruel behavior are out of control on the web — and that Silicon Valley’s well-publicized problem with gender and ethnic diversity in its work force persists.

the full details bore most people and don't sell as well.. it's not like this is anything new... after all.. I bet every one here has heard of the woman that spilt mcdonalds coffee on herself, sued them and won millions. it paints her out to be some idiotic brain dead customer incapable of taking responsibility for herself and getting a massive paycheck out of it. yet the facts of the case are quite different... she originally asked them to cover her medical bills (around 20K) and they refused, the burns were excessive because mcdonalds was intentionally heating the coffee much hotter than they were supposed to so they could keep it fresh longer... this is the cause of the more severe burns and mcdonalds was directly responsible for that. the original amount she was awarded was 2.86 million... but you never hear about the fact that it was reduced later to 640K... and then mcdonalds and her made a private deal to settle the matter rather than going through the appeals. keep in mind, mcdonalds themselves could have settled this for only 20K before it ever went to court. so... if you have gotten bored, stopped reading and downvoted me already then you are a prime example of why the media don't include all these boring details that they feel won't help sell whatever they sell.
