Unprovoked 'one punch' attacks are now subject to harsh penalties in Australia unless the perpetrator is a woman in which case she gets off with a small fine as usual.

So now that the prison laws are hurting women .. its a problem? Not when madatory jailing for minor drug offences saw more men, especially minority men,.... not the assumption that dv is is assumed to be only done by men so are more likely to be thrown in a cell before checking.. but once women start being punished the same as men its a problem?

Also didnt this sort of kinda talk start to happen in UK a while ago?

When they effect women, it's a problem. But it's a totally acceptable solution for men.

Juli was sentenced to two months in the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in 2010-11. Prison is stupid, she says. Terrified when she went in, she was just as terrified on release, not least because, she was homeless again, a situation compounded by stigma ("Everyone hates you when you've been to jail").

Obviously, a man would never be scared or hated upon release.

If it wasn't so sad, this would be hilarious.

We're going to change the laws to specifically target men!
Wait... what do you mean more women are being sent to prison? So... it's backfired?
Well, shit. I guess it's discriminatory!

Maybe if men weren't so violent, these women would never have accidentally been arrested! God! Patriarchy!

They even say this is to hit violent men, and women are "unfairly" being targeted. It's a major concern that women are being arrested when before they'd have been given house arrest for their crimes? Why?

Lol, completely typical - have we made a grand mistake in making the same prison policies that apply to males also apply to females?
