I'm a crisis worker who does what he can to promote equality and work to better all people, with a keen awareness of situations (sexual violence against men [edit: for example]) where the response from the public is less than ideal when men are involved.

My area has no services for men. We have a rape crisis line (won't take calls from women, or even transwomen who haven't had sexual reassignment surgery), several domestic violence shelters (women and children only), two women's resource centres, a women's legal clinic. And a men's shelter...no children allowed there.

So, I thought about starting an organization or a support group in person for men but my community is small and anything I do in person will be associated with my employer, and I don't want to drag them down with me.

So then I thought about an online chat room, even if not as formalized as counselling or therapy, at least some support/information and referral.

I'm surprised to see MR subreddit doesn't already have a chat, is there an obvious reason why not? I'd love to give a hand in preparing materials to help train peer supporters or to operate it.
