Women earn more than men in DR

The Social Security Treasury (TSS), which manages pension plan payments, says that women in the Dominican Republic are now earning more than men, at least in the formal sector. The international norm is that men make more than women, as reported in El Dia.

The analysis of statistics for the first quarter of 2015 covers only formal sector workers. The trend, which was first identified last year, has been maintained. In the first quarter of the year, women's average wage was RD$18,182.59 a month or RD$644.14 (3.5%) more than the RD$17,538.42 average wage for men.

Deloitte financial services commented that the TSS statistics on average salaries show that from a 10% difference where men earned more in 2006, women now make on average 2% more than men. The research analyzed 1.42 million contributors to the social security pension plan.
