Hey ladies,

I know we are all about leveling up in all aspects of our life, including our mental and emotional health. Many of us might be going to therapy currently.

Having been to many different therapists and different therapies over the years, I found what has worked for me, personally, and what hasn't. I've realized that I wasted many months, sometimes to a detrimental effect, because I let the therapist guide my recovery in a way that wasn't suited for me. And even though I've had many great therapists that have worked well for me, not *all* of my sessions have been helpful. I noticed it was up to me to figure out what I needed.

General Tips:

  • You should feel safe, heard, validated, and respected in therapy. No exceptions.
  • Always guide your own therapy. Have an idea of what you want to accomplish and work on.
  • If there is something near and dear to your heart, a wounding, an experience, don’t share it until you have a well-established relationship with a therapist you trust.
  • Try different therapies. In addition to CBT and DBT, there’s EMDR, somatic healing, art therapy, horse therapy, group therapy and so much more.
  • Take a break. Take a couple weeks or a couple months off from therapy. This can help gain perspective on your therapy, as well as be a time to let anything you’ve learned really sink in.
  • Whatever you do, don't go to couple's therapy.
