As opposed to a safe haven from the pressures of work, marriage can become an additional source of stress for men.

This may not be as true in the west as it is in Japan, but it's still true in the west for many men. There are exceptions of course and there are lots of great partnerships out there, but it's the exception.

Why the fuck would you work in IT in Japan? The money would have to be bloody good, but in any case you would be working 10 hour days and in all likelihood the pay would be ordinary. Japan has gazillions of competent programmers who also just happen to be fluent in Japanese...the only reason I can think of is you are working for an International company (8 hour days) in a niche area that pays well and requires perfect English.

Most English teachers earn very decent wages, have little competition if you are willing to move away from premium locations (basically Tokyo), and often only work around 6 hours a day (varies a bit). Despite what people say about the work drying up (somewhat true), if you are willing to relocate and move around you will never be out of work (especially if you are a white, native English speaker and being good looking helps!).
