There's a huge social problem in my country that I see. When journalists write articles about crime, they tend to be lazy, and they fill in all the gaps in their stories that they didn't bother to research with a narrative about the situation that looks like the crime follows the plot of their favorite film noir piece. Of course, the importance of remaining silent when you are arrested and accused of a crime makes these journalists' jobs a lot harder. However, this perception of crime that is divorced from the reality of the complexity of what actually goes down in those situations I believe is poisonous for our society.

I've been working recently over in the /r/news subreddit, in my debate with people - trying to get them to see that my fellow Americans' unbridled hatred of criminals clouds their judgement, and leads to the kinds of police abuses and problems in the justice system that Redditors are so angry about, when it comes to some of the articles they discuss daily.

One observation that was so interesting to me, when looking at /r/news today, is that when my fellow men temporarily lay off with the hatred of their own brethren, it becomes obvious that there is still a force at work that is going full throttle in trying to perpetuate stereotypes of men who have committed crime - and that force is female.

The fact that only about 8% of people in USA prisons are female, I don't believe is a coincidence. I think that women like to hide their influence in the world. On the internet, for example, they'll never come out and announce their gender when hotly debating topics.
