Yeah we are hearing more about how a lot of the lynchings were black men accused of fraternising with or raping white women. I see the article maintains a fiction that lynching was about race alone. It mentions black women being raped. That did happen but not as often as white men getting lynched.

So the tl/dr is that this is an article about an American black woman anti-lynching advocate trying to humiliate an American white female feminist for her passive support of lynching. This took place in the UK not America because in the UK there was no support for American lynchings.

Here's how the white feminist defended herself:

Willard talked about her family background and expressed concern for the plight of blacks. But she also stated that "the best people I knew in the South" had told her black people were threatening the safety of white women and children. She continued, "It is not fair that a plantation Negro who can neither read or write should be entrusted with the ballot."

So this isn't KKK core stuff, but it's the equivalent of a "nice" feminist on the periphery of feminism saying stuff about men. Note that she "expressed concern for the plight of blacks".

The relevance to today is that feminists are still endorsing the lynching of black men as "rapists", but today it's done through an attack on men's legal rights and the encouragement of false rape allegations, as we see going on in colleges especially.
