Happened literally dozens of times.

  1. Match with girl on X dating site/app

  2. Some banter

  3. "Let's get to know each other over a drink sometime next week - what's your #?"

  4. They give me their number (real one, can see their photos on Whatsapp)

  5. I wait 1-2 days, and contact them with something like: "Hey NAME, let's go get that drink! When are you free? DAY0 and DAY1 are looking good for me."

  6. No answer

Why does this happen?

  • If they give me their number after I explicitly say that I am going to take them out, I would expect them to be up for it. Why don't they just... not give me their number if they're not interested in the first place?

  • Am I doing something wrong? Waiting too long to send a text? Should I be less direct and try to have a conversation?

One pretty funny occurrence was a girl giving me her number without me asking. Tried to schedule a date, she said she was busy and offered to reschedule as she "was really looking forward to meet me". Never heard back from her. ¯(ツ)/¯

Only explanation I can think of is that she met with someone else with higher SMV and didn't want to meet me afterwards.
