Kate Beaton is a talented cartoonist who draws the 'Hark! A Vagrant' webcomic (among other things). Unfortunately, like most women and a disturbingly large number of men in the field, she is a feminist.

I wonder if when the man who got fired over the sexual harassment scandal was interviewed for his position, it included the clause 'you must make every woman you meet here as comfortable as possible'. Lest the fucking glorified cashier get slightly uncomfortable, please, make sure you edit yourself after performing a 12 hour shift in freezing conditions without having seen your family (or another woman) in months. Otherwise, you're fired.

This is why men and women should not work together in fields that men will ALWAYS dominate. The military, jobs that require isolation and extremes in weather, etc. Because this EXACT thing will always, always happen. Whether it be heightened level of sexual assault and rape (in the military) or some poor little white girl who is made to feel slightly uncomfortable (in Beaton's case), an isolated society of men will always form a kind of brotherhood that will never include the women that work there and may actually serve to harm those women by making them uncomfortable or lead to them being harmed.

Work environments like this are the ultimate deconstruction of a formal society that is taught from birth to value feminine needs over everything. It's not right, it's not wrong, but realities need to be recognized in order to avoid more hard working men getting fired needlessly, more women being made to feel uncomfortable or frightened and keep these companies operating smoothly
