Ironically, it was someone accusing me of being an MRA that made me want to post this here.

I post a lot in r/relationships, which if you ever go there, is a notoriously biased subreddit against men. But that's part of the reason I go there. I feel like the advice is so shitty sometimes that it needs a different perspective. As such, I am pretty desensitized to the biased things that go on there every day. But apparently r/relationships can still surprise me and then some.

So, here's the situation. A 19-year-old woman comes to r/relationships. She got into sex and drugs way too young and her mother was a train wreck and it screwed her up a bit. A guy--a non-family member--comes along and literally rescues her. He takes her in, he raises her, he feeds her, he clothes her, pays her bills, etc. And he wants nothing in return. And he does it all at the expense of his love life and his reputation--people now regard him as a child molester. The OP, partly due to her dysfunctional child hood and (my opinion only) being a horny teenager, starts wanting to date the guy. He shoots this shit down repeatedly and stresses that they are only family. She comes to r/relationships about this and after some advice talks to him, he shoots her down yet again, and she realizes this guy is a father figure and nothing more. The guy is a goddamn saint in the flesh, basically and the OP's situation was more or less resolved.

I then made the mistake of pointing out this:

http://np.reddit.com/r/relationships/comments/2povx1/update_i_19f_will_get_over_wanting_a_romantic/cmyrz4r

And was promptly downvoted into the fucking toilet. I can't prove it now, but I was downvoted to -50 before I even added any of my snarky edits or child comments--just the original first comment. And then I was berated for how off-topic it was, called an MRA, and told to take my "whiny bullshit" elsewhere. Completely blew my socks off.

Please don't vote or comment. I know I used the NP link, but I also know that takes nothing to circumvent. And I want it to be super-obvious just how little of a fuck they give about this guy. If you vote or comment, it will affect that.

Just curious to see what some people who aren't biased and insane have to say about it.

tl;dr Guy does a saint-level good deed, gets slandered as a child molester for it. r/relationships gives not the slightest of fucks.
