A woman, who makes $50,000 a year, whose higher-earning boyfriend pays the majority of the household bills and who purchased them a house where she lives rent-free, comes complaining to r/relationships. Why? Because her boyfriend doesn't want to legally marry her (although he wants to have a ceremony) because of the risk to his finances and because she wants him to share more of his income with her.

The majority of the upvoted comments are people breathlessly rushing to tell her how up the shit creek she'll be if they break up, how she'll lose her place to live, how she might--gasp--even lose custody of her children since her boyfriend has money to fight her in court and just generally what an untrusting heartless asshole her boyfriend is.

Most of them are hilariously and completely stone oblivious that what they're warning about is exactly the risk every single man takes on when he gets legally married--and then some.

This guy is already paying more than his share and providing a pampered life for his girlfriend, but--no--he's an asshole because he's not doing even more and putting himself at huge financial risk instead of letting her shoulder just a little. Yeah, the not sharing income is a little untraditional, but do you really think if the genders were reversed that those people would be arguing that an already-financially-supported boyfriend is entitled to even more of his higher-earning girlfriend's paycheck? Puh-lease. You know better than that.
