Women rate 19% of men 3/7 or higher while men rate 60% of women 3/7 or higher. The men’s assessment of beauty follows a normal distribution (what we would expect), while the women’s assessment of male beauty is massively right skewed.

The “uneven” nature you mention is a bit complicated. In marketing analytics, the concept of a “user” is weighted based on their time on the platform. In fact when you look at the source your stat is referenced to it uses “monthly active users” as the metric. What that means is say you have an incel who sits on Tinder for an entire year, and then you have 12 females who get on Tinder for a month each, find a guy and then get off the platform or stay on but are inactive. When we count for them as users, the 12 females would actually be counted as 1 female user in each month, and the incel would be counted as 1 male user in each month, so they are treated the same, even though in my example there are far more total women who used the app.

The reason for this relates to the fact that ad revenue is directly tied to app and site usage. If I have someone who uses the app for only 1 month, they aren’t going to generate the same amount of ad revenue as someone who used the app for 12 months, so it makes logical sense to treat the former user as only 1/12 of a user.

I know this because I took a class on this in college as an elective mostly out of curiosity.

For your second link, OLD encompasses more than dating apps. So IG, TikTok, Snapchat, etc. I’m sure you’ve heard women complain about “creepy men” DMing them but a lot of people actually meet this way. Of course if the user DMing is more attractive or has a higher status, it would be more desirable.

I have no reason to believe the beauty standards on IG are any less strict than that of dating apps, simply because the same stereotypes and beauty standards that influence apps come from social media. The idea of fawning after tall guys cones from TikTok videos with a girl bragging about her tall man and tens of thousands of comments and likes.
