Marriage and procreation rates in China are on the decline, and this is especially true among the young.

There are a number of reasons for this decline. One reason is the economic cost of raising children. Housing prices in China are very high, and many young couples cannot afford to buy a home or raise a child on their own. Another reason is the increasing number of women in the workforce. Women are now more likely to have a career and delay marriage and childbirth. When a woman has a job, she has more power and more control over her life. A woman who is uneducated and unskilled is more dependent on a man, which makes her more vulnerable to abuse.

However, this is not unique to China. Many countries are experiencing the same trends in marriage and total fertility rate. Could these trends be positive? Will it help ease congestion? Isn't rising female empowerment a positive outcome?
