Y'all should read the paper.

First - the subjects were a small group of women on hormonal birth control. Not exactly a 'like' subject population to the folks who I'm imagining are looking to this as some sort of confirmation for their bias.

Beyond that, the analysis is shoddy. They tested multiple hypotheses without adjusting for it (there are many ways of correcting for this issue, essentially lowering the required p-value below the accepted .05).

Also: "...paired t tests confirmed that testosterone administration slowed down gaze aversion from angry faces...p=.046...and not from happy faces...p=.992. In sum, although slower gaze aversion from angry faces compared with happy faces can be interpreted as reflecting either dominance or reduced reward sensitivity...this anger-specific effect confirms that testosterone promotes dominance-related gaze behavior."

It does no such thing. They have taken from a lack of change in one measure the suggestion that their second measure is valid - and with an uncorrected p-value that just makes it to significance prior to correction.

The primary author has gone on to do some really interesting work with much more rigorous analysis, though - and a reader may note that the conclusions are much more reasonable that his early work: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306453017315573
