I apologize if this isn’t the right place to post this. I am not as familiar with reddit as I’d care to admit. I’m a 24 year old father of two. I’ve been married for about three years, to my wife who is 23. We have (soon to be had) a good marriage. Sure, we don’t go out as much as we should (we had our children back to back and I’ve admittedly grown fond of the laidback nights in that we’ve shared during the pregnancies). But all in all, I thought it wasn’t a big deal. We’ve just moved into our own place, I’ve found a wonderful career, and we have plans to purchase a own home in a few years. We get along great for the most part but I do complain a lot. The housework is the main issue. Last year my wife told me that she was depressed. At the time, I attributed it to her having recently had our daughter and being a stay at home mom so we came to the conclusion that she would get a job; if only to pay the resulting day care expenses. A month into the job and I found out that she was texting a co-worker and initiating unnecessary conversations with him. I confronted her and after a little yelling we began dissecting the root cause: her happiness. I found out that she has been unhappy for nearly 8months. I was crushed. Its normal to feel unhappy. I do as well. But I also feel happy; and that is the prevailing feeling. She tells me that she wants to be “23”. I understand this. I get it. All my friends are enjoying their youth and I do watch their Snaps and Facebook posts with envious eyes from time to time but I always come to the decision that we were the ones to be envious of in the long run. I try to be as calm as possible but I have a few outbursts during our discussions. We eventually come to an agreement and she is moving in a month. We’ve had a back and forth about her staying but always settle back on her moving. I know that she is making a mistake but I believe it is hers to make. I love her and I regret not showing it more (I’m a little weird about expressing myself outside of “I love you”; I’ve lost a lot of people I’ve opened up to and it’s difficult sometimes). I don’t want her to go but I’ve made my mind up that once she moves out the door will never be open for a return. Coming from where we’ve come from and being who we are, I think she is being selfish and shortsighted but what can I do?
