So I will be married for 9 years this coming May. We are 32 and 31. We have 2 kids, 7,1.5. Own 2 properties, one is a rental.
I don't own much. I have a truck I make payments on, she owns her car outright.
I've come to the conclusion that we need a divorce. I cannot tolerate the way I am treated on a regular basis. She doesn't beat me, but she berates me any chance she gets, in front of whoever, wherever. I've been asking for the better part of a decade for her to stop, and it doesn't.
Before when the topic of another child came up, roughly 3 years ago, I wasn't so sure, I gave her my reasoning and was met with threats of divorce iihf I wouldn't have another child. This would also come up in front of others. So out of fear of divorce I complied. At the same though, I started holding resentment towards her for doing that. This was not the first time she's threatened divorce over not getting what she wanted.
Fast forward to now. Along with the constant bereavement, my 1.5 year old and I have no connection. He screams whenever im near him. So I feel like a complete failure on that front as well.
Ever since the threat of divorce because of kids, we have been like roommates. It got worse when my son was born.
I'm miserable everyday and have been now, for years. I've tried making changes to see if I could improve myself and not be miserable. I went from inactive to very active, tried being more social, tried gaining hobbies. I don't enjoy anything. I feel nothing anymore and I reached my breaking point about 4-5 months ago. I have become cold and distant to everyone except my 7 year old.
I feel like divorce is the only option left.
I don't want anything of hers. I don't care if she takes everything except my vehicle so I can work and buys me out of the house we live in and I would ideally buy the rental property with that money and live there. Well I'd also want shared custody of the kids as well. I don't want her 401, her car, her money, any of her possessions. I just want a clean slate and to move on amicably.
We have talked a bit and I've told her that I think we need to be separated.
Is there any advice? I'm in Massachusetts if that helps.

Don’t give everything. Get an attorney. I would say be amicable, but you are being abused. Make videos of the abuse if you can. You are about to be on the hook for child support for two kids until they are 18. Taking care of the kids is important, but you deserve your share of the property.

give us an update once she talks with a lawyer. I suspect her not wanting to take everything will change. Expect to live on 25% of your income for a while.
