I have to say, I've never been the biggest fan of romance movies or rom coms but some of the most dramatic movies are romance based. Theres so many people who are romantisizing the most toxic and disgusting romantic relationships on TV and in film and then the ones with more healthy characters and love stories get little to no attention. It's just very very gross and I can't look at it the same way.

For example; After and The Broken Hearts Gallery came out at around the same time. While both aimed to be romantic they are different in taste because After is drama and Broken Hearts is rom-com. (Maybe this attributes to the difference in likeness and being viewed but hear me out)

While Nick isn't exactly the most compelling example of a HVM and Lucy isn't the most compelling example of a HVW the relationship portrayed and how they interact with one another is much more authentic and feels healthier. At least these characters motivate one another and show compassion for each other in a way that isn't in a completely destructive garbage type of way. And in the end they help each other succeed in their goals and appreciate one another for the effort they've put into it.

And then you have films like After that is a sequel to an already extremely toxic relationship portrayal. The amount of people just ogling this complete piece of trash franchise has me feeling nauseated. I know, its art, its not real but what do young people feel when they see that? Its gross.
