I really do not like the quote “bloom where you are planted”.
It denotes a narrative that wherever you end up in life you must grow and thrive there. Where you are. Where you were planted.
And I just don’t believe that is right.
If you see a little girl who is brought up in a home where abuse is rampant and love is lost, would you tell her to “make do with what you have”?? Bloom where you are planted??
Would you tell a person in a toxic relationship to “look on the bright side”? To bloom where they are planted?
A plant left in darkness withers. A flower without water dies. If we repress our human desires for “light” and “water”, aka love and happiness, then we too will wither and die.
No. We have free will. We have endless opportunities to leave the situations that we find hinder us from our growth.
We are not plants. We are not flowers. We are humans. We have souls. We are beings of light.
If we are stuck in situations where we do not have the opportunities we need in our lives to thrive, we have the option to leave! To remove ourselves from toxicity. To surround ourselves with things and people that help us to grow and thrive. We do not need to depend on other people to “water” us.
A better quote I feel would be “bloom wherever the hell you want”! Growth is not limited to the situations you were ‘planted’ in.
This is your life.
Do not limit yourself to your upbringing. Bloom wherever the hell you want.
