The ones that come to mind are Black Day on 4/14 in Korea and Singles Day on 11/11 in China.
Black Day is, you'll note, 2 months after Valentine's. I know they celebrate it by eating black jjajang noodles and I'm assuming they went with black because 3/14 is White Day, which is a day for people to reciprocate Valentines with gifts that are usually white in color.
Singles' Day is pretty straightforward, it's set on a date that is all 1's.
I think we often don't celebrate being single enough. It's often seen as a condition to be fixed. Even Black Day is more of a day of commiseration than true celebration and I think eating the black noodles doubles a way to bump into other singles. Regardless, having singles holidays really appeals to me because we deserve one just as much as couples do.
I know FDS is a dating sub, and a lot of FDSers are happily partnered with HVM that were vetted for more than a year and just hanging around to mentor newcomers, but I think it'd be neat for FDS to participate in these holidays somehow to celebrate it. Like maybe on 4/14 we could order dark colored foods, not necessarily just jjajang or zhajiang noodles since not everyone will have access to it or be comfortable trying it, post pics. Or maybe on 11/11 we could make it a treat yourself day and have a thread talking about what we did to celebrate singlehood. I know we can do that just any day but having it tied to a date, in an organized way as a group, I think that could make it special and extra encouraging for all of us that are working on leveling up and maintaining high standards.
Or if there are other singles holidays, we could celebrate that too.
What do you guys think?
