I'm reading the new B. A. Paris book, "The Dilemma," and I'm so put off by the main characters' relationship that I can't get into it.

They got married when they were in their early twenties and so got to go to college. They have a son very young, and the wife takes in ironing to make money and support the family. She saves a bit from each time she's paid so that she can treat her husband and son to a vacation.

The husband found the money that and spent it on a motorcycle because "how dare she save up to leave him". And when he went to buy the motorcycle, he completely forgot their three year old son that he was supposed to be watching!

And later, he fucks off to his friend's apartment for days at a time and doesn't tell her. She thinks he's dead and when he comes back he just blows her off and doesn't regret it. And then he continues to do it for most of the son's childhood.

I'm only a third of the way through (also no spoilers) but I am LIVID.
