I am first generation American (my fam is from an obscure place). I understand I look “different” than most in the US. I don’t look like the majority of black people in America (ADOS) but I am still black and identify as American.. more so than my parents nation. I use a fake name on apps too. Yet almost every guy I match with, whether white, black or whatever, will immediately ask where I am “originally” from or what my “background is.” I initially thought they all meant my hometown but nope. Most have never even heard of my country of origin anyway. I don’t like them asking bc it seems they’re more interested in the exotic aspect.. and not me? I have heard Asian American people complain of this bc they are American but are othered because they do not “look American.” I guess for me there’s another layer bc I always identified as a black woman and suddenly in my new city I made to feel like I don’t belong in any group. I also find it weird that white men suddenly can differentiate black women now. I grew up in America and for the most part white people saw me as black and didn’t care about the particulars. I kinda blame the whole kardashian/IG exotic ambiguous looking women that desire black features that has been popularized in recent years. One man told me I look like a white woman with painted black skin. My new city is also known for it’s superficiality...

Any women experience this? Whats your response to such questions? I don’t mind if they are just culturally curious but most are not.
