This USED to be me! I would go out of my way to give my NV ex these amazing & expensive gifts, meanwhile he would always get me something cheap or something that was usually for him (for example: a video game, I don’t play video games.) Now, I never spend my hard earned cash on men, I make them spend their cash on me by taking me on meaningful dates. I spend my money on MY bills, MY savings, MY future and MYSELF. Period.

I fancy myself an adult video game player (unlike some commenters, I see zero issue with anyone of any age playing video games, so long as they have their shit together. People enjoy different things), and trust me, every guy I dated that labeled himself a "gamer" was problematic, at best. My last one was 35, utterly gorgeous, seemed to have his life together… until two months in, when the truths started coming in. He had his mom still paying for his bills as he worked a low-end job, four roommates, no aspirations, smoked tons of weed, watched porn, and ignored socializing to play WoW and Call of Duty. I gave him a couple months because he said he was just at a bit of a low point and he is building himself up. WRONG. I fell for it. I slowly was turning into his mom. The quick relationship killer was when I asked him to help my stepfather (who has lung cancer) with a few things and he needed it to be timed around his WoW raid schedule or else no dice. I was done. So done. I told him off and he flipped out on me for inferring he was a loser.

But… I wasn’t inferring. I made it very clear. He is a loser.

He legitimately just loves to spoil me because he thinks I deserve it and loves seeing me smile. I've dated men like the OOP here in the past and... Learned many difficult lessons. They're almost always selfish in every regard, and hypocrites to boot. (Also, I would have got him more, but he insisted there was nothing else he wanted. Just insist that you get to be the first to open the present(s) he got you. If his gift doesn't measure up, return it an keep the console.
