My ex boyfriend and I used to get into so many fights over me saying men are trash and him arguing “not all men”. I tried to have a civilized discussion with him about why I feel that way and how of course I don’t mean ALL men. What I mean is, historically men have taken advantage of not only women, but any group of minorities for their own gain and not cared about who got in their way or how they got there. He couldn’t hear past me saying men are trash. We would fight and fight for hours over this and I couldn’t ever get him to see my side of things. He said something about how it makes him feel like he is garbage and I would say well that’s your own ego then. It’s not my fault you can’t see how even if you don’t actively abuse women, you are still contributing to their marginalization. I probably should’ve broken up with him at that point or even when he started to say he didn’t like Lizzo because he thinks she’s promoting obesity. insert eye roll I’ve found it’s very hard to find any men who are willing and able to take their share of the blame or even just acknowledge how they could be contributing to this systemic problem. I now know that this is something I can’t compromise on either. During our first date I sat there and rationalized with him how Trump winning the election wasn’t really that bad because it wouldn’t directly affect me, and trying to hold back about topics like feminism because I didn’t want to scare him off. Turns out, I should’ve because it would’ve saved me a year of my life! But I also wouldn’t have learned that this is something I need in a partner so, everything happens for a reason, right? Sorry for the rant!

TL;DR men are trash and anyone who tries to tell me differently can see themselves out
