Hi everyone,
I am a volunteer with the Vancouver branch of the Canadian Centre for Men and Families (CCMF), a registered charity that delivers services to men and boys across Canada. We are connected to the Canadian Association for Equality (CAFE), an educational charity with a unique focus on integrating boys, men and fathers into efforts to achieve gender equality. Our leadership is comprised of academics and professionals in the fields of law, psychology, social work, education, journalism and gender studies.
Some of the issues we work on include men’s health, fatherlessness, violence against men, misandry, the law, suicide, education and parental alienation. We offer therapy and counselling, legal assistance, men’s peer support groups, and in 2021 we opened Ontario’s first dedicated shelter facility for abused men and children.
A note relevant to this sub: CAFE is not affiliated with any political parties, and we maintain neutrality on matters of politics, religion and ideology.
I also host the YouTube podcast ‘Perspectives on Men’, where I interview researchers, authors, practitioners and others engaged in the sphere of men’s issues. I am always looking for guests, and welcome your suggestions as well as your comments on our videos.
I know that it can be discouraging to see so little support for men and boys in light of the struggles they face nowadays. Since there aren’t very many organizations like ours around, I just wanted to say that we are here, and we are listening.
In case you’re interested, we are hosting a national men’s issues conference on Saturday Dec. 11, on Zoom: https://equalitycanada.com/project/momentum2021/
If you want to share stories, ideas or feedback, I welcome your messages.
