Between 1999-2018, the employment rate for men between 25-34 dropped 2.4x as fast as the rate for women of the same age. The primary cause: lack of educational attainment.

The opinion from the media on Elizabeth Warren dropping out has largely been: "Well crap, it looks like we are stuck with just men now." But supposedly that isn't sexism. Imagine how the reverse would be treated.

A quick summary of the study and how it relates to men:

It looks at measures of personality traits (Grit, Intellecutalism, Planning, Self-Control and Sensation‐Seeking) and compares these to different measures of eudaimonic (purpose and more long-term) and hedonic (more positive feeling in the moment) happiness in Korean society.

This is valuable, because (according to the authors) unlike our societies in the west, their emphasis is placed on collectivistic social harmony and personal harmony, with a relative de-emphasis on happiness as a goal. As a result (IMO), measuring traits often found to be associated with positive outcomes in the west may yield different results in a society that isn't that focused on the outcome.

The results were a little different from previous studies, but the relationship was basically the same: these variables are helpful for both measures of happiness. My impression from the regressions was sensation seeking wasn't really helpful so I removed it in the title.

Notably, unlike a study from the US which found similar benefits to eudaimonic and hedonic happiness from these traits, the current study found benefits for both, but had a somewhat stronger effect on eudamonia.

As far as masculinity goes, I think this offers reasonably strong evidence (confirmed by studies they cite) which suggests these traits are healthy for men.

I've been reading this and it makes a lot of sense to me.
