That statistic is somewhat misleading.

80% of first time marriages "succeed". It is the remaining 20% of people take on second, third or more marriages that fail, that pad up the number.

That being said, the "succeed" means they do not divorce. Still, one look at dead bedrooms subreddit gives insight into what "succeed" means to non-trivial minority of married men.
