in ancient judail law as outlined by the bible, if a man raped a woman (who was not engaged) his punishment was her, for life, and was not allowed to divorce her. seriously think about that for a minute.
(if she was engaged, he would be put to death however, if it "happened" in the city and she did not cry out to be saved, she was put to death with him, ancients jews knew what was up #metoo/false rape allegations)

yeap, i just find it funny, your punishment for raping a virgin who wasn't engaged was HER, even back then they knew what was up with marriage... just it used to be the only way to get kids (come on artificial wombs)
and for that matter they probably knew what was up with pair bonding ect. hence why they were so big on virginity among other reasons.

Honestly everyone got their match back then. Chad the ancient real estate mogul got a very beautiful woman. A slightly poorer Chad still got a very good looking woman.
And the lower down the looks/money spectrum you were, the more your options shrank. And for women the more beautiful you were the more likely you were to marry Chad the banker or something.
It was a pretty fair system imo.
