For me religion is not about whether I like or don’t like their story and morals, it’s about whether there is or is not God and whether cases presented by chosen mythology is probable.

I find any mythology highly improbable, which is reason why I remain atheist until evidence for deity is presented or shown to me.

If I had to choose religion, I would go for buddhism. As far as I know biggest no no in case of buddhism for me is reincarnation.

There is lots of wisdom in the Bible and other "holy texts," but only because men used to know the score and were not afraid to tell it like it is. That lends credibility to the wisdom of the text, but not necessarily to its "divine origin."

Former religious guy here, who unfortunately had to put all that bullshit away when I took that red pill. TFM is square on the nose when he says that "principles" makes life easy, as it gives you a simple filter for making decisions and categorizing the things around you, and religion is much the same, if not even more broad. When you're religious, everything has a purpose, and can be explained by a simple metric, with everything that cannot be explained simply lumped into the general category of "test" or "miracle." So I use the word unfortunate. But rid myself of that nonsense I did.

Why do you need to replace bullshit with other bullshit? Why can't there be "no bullshit"?

How do you deal with the parts of your religion that you disagree with?

You disregard them and apply the parts that you agree with. Or you drop the whole thing altogether (my personal recommendation when it comes to Christianity). It's what "being a human being with an independent mind" means. Don't follow a herd.

By coincidence I read that very same passage today and thought about you guys.

The Catholic Church is the latest iteration of the Babylonian mystery religion dressed up in Christian garb. Granted many other churches aren’t much better. But as you say, the Bible does contain some hard hitting redpills about unbearable women. Solomon dished them out. After all, he had 1000 wives nagging him, so he should know...

The Christian religion in a nutshell is:

Mankind fell from perfection by his choice to sin. This brought death, disease, decay and suffering.
God promised a new world free of all this where those who so choose can be restored to perfection and live forever.
Jesus was perfectly sinless and didn’t deserve to die, but still gave up his life willingly so the value of it could redeem us. Like someone pushing you out of the way of a bus but is then killed himself, or someone willingly taking the place of hostages to allow them to go free, or a rich benefactor graciously paying your huge fine so that you don’t need to go to jail.
All anyone needs to do is accept the offer to have him pay your debt for you, and to show your appreciation by trying to emulate the example he set.
Then when you die, instead of facing oblivion, you will have a resurrection into perfect endless life.

If you look at most churches, you see a lot of cuckery, but the example set by Jesus is very well balanced. He was a carpenter, blue collar kind of guy, connected well with people, treated them fairly and at the same time taught them with wisdom, cared for them with love (real love, not the lust people today mistake for love). But he was not a hippie snowflake either. He twice drove the merchants out of the temple, shouting, flipping their tables and whipping them with ropes. When armed men came against them he bravely stepped in front of his friends to defend them. He constantly called out the hypocrisy of the ruling class and didn’t stop because of death threats. His death was also the biggest example of “throwing yourself on the hand grenade to save your squad” in history, because he did it for all of humanity.

“Turning the other cheek” is an example of internal strength we all should cultivate. Being slapped was an insult. Some react to insults like rabid chimps and want revenge like a little bitch. But you’re a strong, confident guy and you know how to ignore it, or just take it with a smirk. You do this every time you shrug off a feminist’s inane shaming language.

“Love your enemy” is in a similar vein. It’s easy to be petty and revengeful against someone who makes themselves your enemy. But it takes a lot of self discipline to treat them well despite their hatred. “Love” in the Bible is not some mushy emotion, but a conscious decision based on principles. It’s closer to loyalty or “doing the right thing”. You don’t “love” your enemy like a tween girl loves Bieber, you love him like a paramedic patching up a violent criminal shot by the police, or a firefighter rescuing one of those assholes who throw stones at firefighters — because it’s your duty and you’re loyal to your principles.

For me religions aren't something that you blindly follow to the letter of their teaching. Each contains truth but you have to look at them through the lens of a skeptic. After thousands of years of course the original meaning would be diluted, taken out of context, or their words only serve as symbolism suitable for certain period of time. You read but you decide its meaning, that's the gist of it.
