My theory is that women want status over other women. The reason that 'what women want' is so difficult to understand, is because they want something very abstract like 'status'.

Consider that for 1000s of years, a woman's importance was related to who she married. She didn't get her status via hard work or winning wars, etc, but rather who she fucked. Ex: The wife of a tribal chief was the most important woman in the tribe. All the other women were below her. But all she did was fuck the chief and have his children. Her status came from her association to the chief.

Today women still want that status that has been woven into their genes via evolution. They can get that status from wealth, fame, beauty, etc. This is also why women play 'keeping up with the Jones'. Nothing makes a woman happier than being able to look down on other women and 'frenemies'. To rub their noses in that she has something or is fucking something they can not. (Want to make a woman really happy? Give her something she can show off to all her 'friends' and make them feel jealous.)

A woman will monkey branch any time she thinks she can get a guy that will increase her status to other women in some way. Women want the bad boy or the rich guy BECAUSE all the other women want them. If women aren't interested in a guy, neither will any other woman be interested. (This is why wearing a wedding band will suddenly get you lots of flirting women) They only want what the other women want so they can have status over the other women.
