Hey man I want you to know I recently went through a very similar situation. I was engaged, and she was gorgeous and awesome to be around in so many ways. Everyone in her family and mine were excited about us eventually getting married etc. Despite all the good things, I was never able to get over a bad gut feeling that my intuition was always pulling the alarm on. While she was always nice and sweet to me, I kept noticing that she can be short and cold and otherwise snap at others (roommates, family) from time to time. I knew deep down, one day in the future, she will be this way towards me as well. She was financially dependent on me, and was usually bad at managing money or following through and completing short or long term goals. While I did genuinely love the gal, it also felt like I was going to trash my life in an effort to support this girl ... all for what may potentially just be a bitch in a few years time. There may have been a chance it could ultimately work out, but I couldn't take the risk with the knowledge and experience I had in front of me. The break up was hard and dramatic, was only a few weeks ago and I'm still recovering. Even though I knew it was the right decision, it felt like I lost my best friend in the process and it's not easy at all. Especially when you have your life structured around this person.

This community gave me hope and camaraderie when I was going through it all, because at the end you have to do what's best for you - even if that means you GYOW.

Tragic story, brother.

Nobody ever gets married with the intent of it ending, but I don’t see this being resolvable. The only person you can improve is yourself.

Your ex isn’t going to start treating you better. You have detailed her nature and the background which likely contributed to that behavior. You’ll find a lot of men here have stories about how they’ve been done dirty by the women they have dedicated themselves to.

One thing I eventually learned with my ex wife is that forgiveness is not for her: it’s for you. And it is not a license for her to continue being a devilish snot.

You have to choose your path, but I would look to get out. It is killing you: your spirit, your mindset. These spill over into other things in your life. An apt quote I can’t remember the source from: “What you allow, will continue.”

Be sure to take whatever time you need to heal up.
