TL/DR at the end. I've always had a great amount of respect for the older generations and I have a few friends who are men in their 60s and older. One, 'Sid' is in his 70s. He's smart as hell and a hell of a golf player. But - he was married. Over the course of his marriage his wife did a lot of "peculiar" things. I'll give one example: she insisted on a pool and it could only be an in-ground pool, which can be pricey. He assented and spent several thousand for a pool in the backyard that she hardly ever used. Fast forward a few years later. She says she doesn't like it and wants it removed. So, Sid paid $$ to have it buried and his back yard landscaped the way she wanted it. She recently died unexpectedly. It was only after her death that he discovered she had amassed over 60k in debt. You see brothers, she had been secretly opening credit card accounts and had taken out at least one loan from one of those title loan companies. In addition to the funeral expenses, he is now burdened with a debt that he did not even incur or reap the benefits of. He was planning on fully retiring in 2020. It's not going to happen now.
