Were not dogs. The guy who came up with the idea of alpha and beta and whatnot retracted a couple years later. But the book was already too popular by then and the idea stuck. The idea was popular because humans are ego driven and it appealed to their sensibilities.

It's nomenclature defining men in terms of their success with women. In other words, deferring to interactions with women to measure the worth of a man. I reject the notion, though I do recognize that the terminology and perception have a powerful influence.

Alpha is a guy who doesn't break frame. People come into his frame or they don't interact. 2 alphas can be talking and both holding frame but that doesn't work with an alpha and beta or an alpha and female. An alpha does what they want without fear of judgement because he is sure that he's right in doing what he's doing. An alpha is very persuasive. This is an alpha in social situations. An alpha in other things like jobs is just the guy that's best at it but sometimes social hierarchies come into play in those situations too.

It's clear cut, the leader of the pack. Being reckless and trying to impress is not alpha traits, which PUAs actually are. Alphas don't feel the need to impress, it's natural to them. The natural authority of an older brother over the younger one if translated to a social group could be considered alpha. Not through violence or intimidation but covertly accepted hierarchy.
