The thing is that you will always play a premium to move off grid.

What you may spend on land will be offset by other expenses.

Cities provide many resources far more cheaply then off grid or near off grid living.

You may want to install a solar or small hydo-generator to enjoy technology.

There are higher set up costs and ongoing maintenance cost to contend with.

Fuel may be more expensive if you plan on having a car or basic farm machinery.

Decide what level of technology you want and what you really want to achieve on the land.

Spend money on this first without hesitation and then wasteful spending will be virtually eliminated and you can throw all the time and resources into enjoyable activities and goals.

I'm going to do van life sometime in the near future. When I leave this job before I get a new one. I'm in a 1 bedroom apartment right now.

I've got a BOL ready close to the coast, but still live in the suburbs. My guess is the coasts (major population centers) will get hit with EMPS and the central states (farmland) will get nuked. I'm in EMP country. I am ready to live without power.
