Actually spot on. They fail to realize that getting his attention actually means something. Most of the time men or women cheat because they have little to no sex life in the realtionship or the sex is terrible. Not getting any affects men and woman drastically. Sexual frustration is a real thing, our minds start hating things and blaming others for the state of it. Men cheat because it's is really hard to say no when your dick is swollen as fuck. The media is filled with the image of wronged women getting back at cheating men because nothing is worse apparently than a cheating man. Once again, it's one of the big lies (not to mention projection) women put out there to paint themselves the victims ignoring their own cheating habits and all the women out there who are willing to cheat with taken men.

Generally when men cheat in fiction he's just a dog (not someone trapped in sexless marriage with a nagging beast) but when women do it's because they are neglected or because their partner is an asshole. This is to give real women encouragement and hamster fuel to justify their actions.

Saying she cheated to get the attention is her attempting to justify a portion of her own nature/behavior that she is unwilling to evaluate. Why? Because it would make her uncomfortable, and that's how we've evolved.
