So I have finally gotten around to watching this fantastic tv show about this man who, when faced with imminent death, does the unthinkable to provide for his family once he's gone.

What struck me as unbelievable was the attitude and portrayal of women in the show.

A brief idea for those who don't know:

Walter/Walt: titular character

Skyler: his wife

Jr/Flynn: his son

Marie: his sister in law

Hank: his brother in law

  1. In the first season, he wants to keep his cancer hidden but Skyler creates such a havoc in the house that he tells her. She's supposed to keep it quiet...but then over the lunch table bursts out crying and tells the other diners to ask Walt what's the matter. He's obviously forced to reveal his cancer (with his sister in law shooting daggers at him with a very nasty what did you do, Walter? statement). And his son comes to know of his father's disease in the most spectacular fashion. But Skyler's all like Oh I didn't mean for you to find out this way.

  2. Walt is hesitant about treatments because they are out of his insurance plan and will cost a lot. She insists on him taking charity from his former associates but he refuses. Any self respecting man would. She then holds an intervention trying to make him go for the treatment. He obviously doesn't want to leave his family in debt. And how can you push someone to do something which they can't afford to? It's like suggesting a normal person to get a 150ft luxury yacht.

  3. He has to keep everything a secret from her, all the things he had to do to protect her and also because she would be quite the bitch about it. What is it with women and their inability to understand the actions of men which are ultimately in their best interest?

  4. He beats cancer, gets operated. And she asks him to leave the house with absolutely no consideration of the tremendous ordeal he's been through. You lied to me, Walter. He just beat cancer! Can't you focus on that? Lots of other incidents in between where she's just plain inconsiderate of his condition and it's more important how she feels rather than what he's going through.

  5. To retaliate, she sleeps with her boss.

  6. She kicks him out of his own house and demands a divorce.

  7. He tries to salvage the situation but she doesn't let him. He eventually signs on the divorce papers and leaves them for her to find.

  8. She has a change of heart, apparently after he showed her the amount of money he's made. Now she's all for reparations.

  9. She insists now upon getting into business together. Strongarms him into buying a car wash.

  10. Hank gets into medical troubles too...she insists on Walt paying for his treatments.

  11. Despite all this, Walt wants nothing more than to be with his family. Why the fuck would you want a woman like that, Walt? A woman who cheated on you when you battled the biggest challenge of your life? A woman who wanted nothing to do with you (but only your money), caved in when you agreed to the divorce (coz she wouldn't be able to get any money)?

It infuriated me...and I thought this was the place to vent.
